Dabhil is a village located at the southern part of Dapoli Taluka in the Ratnagiri district of Maharashtra State. It is a beautiful village surrounded by the Sahyadri mountain range of Western Ghats ranging from 900-1200 meters. Total geographical area of Dabhil is 876 hectare & 46.41 gunthas It has a common border with Shiravane and Fansu to north, Pangari tarfe Haveli to south and Degaon to east. Kodjai River flows from its west and it separate Dabhil from Bhopan. Two tributaries of The Kodjai River are the seasonal streams flowing from Savat Kadha and Jambh. Both of them make a handful of waterfalls while coming down to plains .Dabhil is just 35 kilometers away from both Dapoli and National Highway 17 (Khed). It is 265 kilometers away from Mumbai.
The village can be divided in ten parts/waadis namely: 1.Mohalla (having Muslim population), 2. Dambuk waadi, 3.Bhoi waadi, 4.Saalwadi, 5.Sutar waadi, 6. Buddhwaadi,
7. Taambe waadi, 8. More waadi, 9. Patilwaadi and 10. Teli waadi. Division is done on the basis of religion, occupation or cast.
The village has a village post office, an animal hospital, Ratnagiri District Central Co-operative Bank (established in February 1982), a Telephone Exchange, a P.C.O, a Talathi Office and a Panchayat office.
Muslim population here speaks the kokani language and Hindus normally speak in Marathi.
Dabhil is famous for its large lot of PhDs. Zila Parishad Primary Urdu School was opened here in September, 1850 and is one of the oldest schools of Maharashtra as well as India. It also has a Marathi Medium High school called Modern High School, Dabhil.
It works under the management of Ja’matul Muslimeen , Dabhil and Its new building was made open on 31st December, 1991. Two Marathi medium primary schools serve the educational thirst of its Marathi loving population.
Climate here is basically tropical monsoon type. It lies in the heavy rainfall area of Western Ghats and receive annual rain fall exceeding 200cm. A sizeable area of Dabhil covers forest resources. These are tropical rain forest consisting Alphonso Mango tress, Cashew nut tress, Jackfruit tress, Coconut tress, Teakwood trees, Banana tress, Banayan trees, Peepul, Neem, Ain, Sal, Palas. On the riverside of Kodjai , mangrove forests are also found. Both types of tress i.e. Ever-green as well as Deciduous are found here. While rice is the main crop grown here, some types of cereals like Nachani and Vari as well as some pulses are also cultivated here. A variety of animals can be seen in forests of our village. Bisons, Leopards, Deer, Antelope, Vangai, Foxes and Monkeys are some of them. Birds such as Parrots, Peacocks, Partridges, jungle fowls are also found.
People of three main religions i.e. the Hindus, the Muslims and the Buddhists are found here. While Muslims have two mosques (one Ja’ma Mosque and one Eid Gaah), Hindus also have three big temples also there is a Buddh Vihar for the followers of Gautam Buddha. Jamatul Muslimeen, Dabhil looks after the Muslim population and is a sovereign body having its head office in Mumbai. It was registered in 1959 and is since working for the betterment of muslims.
While it’s Muslim population has there earning from the Gulf countries as well as Mumbai, a large amount of Hindus carry on there traditional jobs like carpentry, fishing etc. Agriculture is the main occupation and it’s not done for the business purpose. Other occupations include rearing goats and cattle, producing mango pulp, cashew nuts, kokam syrup, selling milk products etc.
Dabhil comes under Dapoli constituency for the Vidhan Sabha Elections and under Raigad constituency for Loksabha elections. Mr. Dhondu Govind Shigwan is its current vice- Sarpanch(seat of Sarpanh is vacant). While Mr. Suryakant Dalvi represents Dabhil in the Legislative assembly, Mr. Anant Geete represents it in the Parliament.
as per the 2011 census , Dabhil had a total population of 1349 ( 705 Females & 644 Males)
